After a tiny break from creating House of Anubis, Eugene didn't let his hands down and gave us loads of amazing interviews, stories, photos and more!
Here are some photos, articles, photoshoots & news we've collected from Eugene's Official Website he posted 2 days ago! But before that, here goes a little sad but interesting article Eugene has suddendly posted about his life, better read, it brang most of people in tears!
About Eugene: Eugene was born in London, June 11th 1992, A Londoner and appearing quintessentially English, Eugene's family are predominantly Irish, his father having been raised in Limerick but educated in southern England. His mother's roots are Welsh and Irish but with a slight splash of Maltese, enough though that owing to her quick-tanning olive skin, her blond, blue-eyed baby Eugene was often mistaken for being in the arms of his nanny rather than his mother! He grew up in a loving family of five: his parents, older brother Charlie and younger sister Fleur. Always alongside his best friend Piers whom he went to school with until he was thirteen.
By this point Eugene had already been a child actor for several years having started when he was eight. His mother encouraged him to try out with child agency Abacus, where he was accepted. His first role ever (Other than one of the Nativity wise-men in Kindergarden) was playing 'Archie' in a workshop theatre production of James Joyce's "Exiles".
He slowly ascended the industry food-chain from commercials to TV appearances until his first film playing the younger self to Heath Ledger's Casanova. Having finished Primary School, he got his first lead role in the BBC's film adaptation of Gerald Durrell's My Family & Other Animals, Eugene playing the young Gerald Durrell.
An animal-loving boy (like his character) Eugene describes this as one of the happiest moments of his life, the whole experience having a great influence on his desire to pursue acting as a life-long career. He nostalgically remembers a great mentor and personal friend whom tutored and took care of him whilst filming, the late Steve Fletcher, father of acclaimed actor Dexter Fletcher.
"Whenever Steve spoke to me, he always made me feel that even though I wasn't exactly normal... that that was something to be celebrated and ancouraged. He had complete confidence in me. And in the years to come I would very much need that."
The making of this film resulted in Eugene being some weeks late to start at his new school, Bryanston. The next three years were an unpleasant experience. Eugene badly struggled with bullying throughout and it became progressively worse at time went by. Finally, after an incident involving ten boys assaulting him he left. He found happiness, solace and friends at his new school, Downside.
Eugene now began working again, in 2009 he secured the role of Young Ben Hur, with actor Joseph Morgan (Vampire Diaries) playing his older self. Eugene had now turned seventeen and having gone through a notoriously bad age for actors, began training for the role; horse-riding and charioteering no less! The following year was the start of Eugene's real ascent into television, film and Hollywood. He secured a recurring lead in the Nickelodeon's hit-groundbreaking world known TV show, House of Anubis, playing the cunning Jerome Clarke. He simultaneously booked his other well-known role as Lancel Lannister in HBO's Game of Thrones, filming both shows back to back. He not only discovered that he had booked these two jobs on the same day, but that day also happened to be his birthday.
With both shows being a success, Eugene decided in the break between seasons that he needed to at least experience what Hollywood was like. Three years on, he was visited Los Angeles many times and spent up to six months out of the year there.
"If I had the good fortune of success I wanted to get to grips with the place before work drew me there so that I understood it. I wasn't afraid, boarding school had prepared me for this sort of thing, even though it was my first time being in America."
To his great delight, his time spent there has often been for work. Before I Sleep is Eugene's first film shot in the US; Vermont, New England. For the first time in his career, Eugene was offered this role without auditioning, he received a call from brother-directors Aaron and Billy Sharff asking him if he would like the part. He happily accepted. Not yet released it follows the story of Eugene Devlin, an Anglo-American writer and poet who in his youth falls deeply in love with a girl named Phoebe. After unfortunate circumstances draw the two away from one another, the now elderly Eugene reflects on his life and indeed the great loss he felt at never seeing Phoebe again.
In May 2014 Eugene will be returning to film with a lead role in Lord-of-the-Flies esque movie Eden. Playing as US soccer player Kenny, this underdog character is Eugene's first role playing an American, alongside rising actors such as Diego Boneta, Jessica Lowndes, Ethan Peck and Nate Parker.
"The level of attachment I felt to this character gave me a chance to tap into a very dark and fear-filled part of my persona that made me feel so akin to Kenny. What he undergoes in this film is deeply disturbing, but as a young actor, it was a dream of a role to perform."
This release also accompanies Eugene's involvement with BAFTA in the 'Red Short Film Competition' hosted in London. He will be on a judges' consisting of acclaimed actors, writers, directors and producers all searching for the best free minute 'shorts' that are submitted. In the meantime, he will continue to pursue work wherever it calls him, and is even sheduled to go on stage towards the end of the year. But who know what 2014 may hold!
